Legal and Safety Information
(The following information is our understanding of these issues. Please check with your local building inspector for actual requirements)
- The building codes of some government bodies, such as California, require that the top tread and the lower tread of each stairway "shall be marked by a strip of clearly contrasting color, at least 2 inches wide.... to alert the Visually impaired". Treads ending in VI meet the requirements of California code. These items can be ordered in the Disc-O-Tred section & Rubber Stair Tread with Grit-Strip section.
- Stair Treads give added traction and improve safety on stair ways
- Grit-Strip imbedded stair treads give additional safety.
- Grit-Strips (which can be added anytime) are glued to any stairs or flooring surface to further reduce the risk of accidents, help meet OSHA requirements. Grips foot traffic; helps lessen slip and fall problems on walkway surfaces.
